Meaning

Estimation for the overall performance of a field player. Developed by former handball player Pär Jilsén in 1993.

Calculation

Events in a match are weighted. Actions that benefit the team are positive and actions that disadvantage the team are negative. The exact weights are not public and updated yearly.

Interpretation

The higher the MEP the better was the player. It is structured so that all players regardless of position can be compared with euch other.

Since the factors are only to a limited extent based on numbers and many aspects of the game are not tracked at all, the validity is debatable.
